Step by Step Guide To Making Malva Pudding

What is Malva Pudding?

Malva Pudding is a sweet decadent caramelized South African dessert soaked in a tasty warm butter sauce, topped off with warm delicious custard or cream.

Where does it Malva Pudding originate ?

According to culinary historian and cook book author Magdalene van Wyk the word Malva is derived from the Afrikaans word "Malvalekker" meaning "marshmallow".

"Malvalekkers" are old fashioned sweeties made from the marshmallow plant. The marshmallow plant gave these infamous sweeties their sponginess.  The theory is that the texture of the pudding resembles that of a marshmallow, springy and light.

There are other theories about the pudding like it was named after a lady named Malva.

The word Malva is also derived for the word geranium and some think that it was originally flavoured with the leaves of the rose scented geranium called pelargonium that is native to South Africa.

The truth is , who knows.  All I can say is that this is one of the most decadent desserts you will taste in your life. Get ready to indulge.Today we have included a "Step By Step Guide For Making The Perfect Malva Pudding" below. Enjoy.
